Mark your calendar for the 2014 competition dates--please be sure to complete the School Intent to Participate form at the beginning of the school year which will ensure you receive all alerts and updates from CMHEC.

Only schools that submitted a School Intent to Participate Form will receive registration materials.

Completed electronic registration for all projects is due by Thursday, February 20, 2014. We cannot guarantee slots for students after the deadline.

All participating students must submit a Student Authorization Form (PDF) at the event.

PAPERS are due in the History Fair office by Friday, February 28 or may be brought to the event on March 1. Please submit two sets and the Student Authorization Form.

WEBSITES are locked down for judging on Thursday, February 27, 6pm and will re-open once finalists are announced. Please send the Student Authorization forms to the History Fair office.

CMHEC now offers interviews to students that worked on websites and papers.  Interviews are optional.

Advancing projects are pre-registered by CMHEC.

PAPER Revisions are due on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the History Fair office.

WEBSITES will be locked down on April 8, noon.

Because the Metro Finals and State competitions are combined events, all students competing at this level will receive State History Fair ribbons based on their scores and the scores from this level will be used to determine the two NHD qualifiers.

Finalist students in the papers and websites categories who receive superior scores at this level will be invited for an interview at the Metro Finals on April 28.

Schedule of the Day*

9:30 a.m. -- Arrive in Springfield; students set up projects (they are pre-registered)

10:30 a.m. -- Opening ceremony in Prairie Capital Convention Center; superior papers and websites announced.

10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. -- Judging of performances, documentaries and exhibits. Springfield site-seeing!

1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. -- Public viewing of exhibits

2:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. --  Awards ceremony in Prairie Capital Convention Center

3:30 p.m. -- Announcement of NHD qualifiers, immediately followed by an important orientation meeting for students selected to advance to NHD.

4:00 p.m. -- Pick up exhibits, evaluations, and ribbons. Only teachers may pick up school packets. CMHEC will mail remaining packets to teachers.

* CMHEC offers charter bus/meal tickets for $55 per person (students and chaperones). Advance registration required. Passengers meet at 5:30 a.m. at Harrison & State streets and return by 8 p.m.
